  • Volunteers will also have the opportunity to explore local sights and experience Ghana’s rich culture during their free time.

  • AVO will provide airport pickup upon your arrival. Please communicate your flight details at least two weeks in advance to ensure we can arrange transportation.
  • At the end of your volunteering, AVO will also arrange airport drop-off to ensure a smooth departure.

6. Smoking Policy

  • Smoking is prohibited within the premises of the volunteer organisation or any host sites.
  • Smoking should only take place in designated areas, away from children and out of sight, even during missions. Please respect this policy for the safety and well-being of everyone.

7. Dress Code

  • The dress code for volunteers is subject to the seasons in Ghana:
    • Dry season (November to April): Light, breathable clothing is recommended due to the heat. Comfortable, lightweight clothing (e.g., T-shirts, shorts, skirts, and light dresses) are suitable. You may want to bring sun protection such as hats and sunscreen.
    • Rainy season (May to October): The weather is cooler, but it can be wet. Waterproof clothing like rain jackets, sturdy shoes, and quick-dry fabrics are ideal.
  • Modesty is important in Ghana, so please avoid revealing clothing, especially when working in communities or with children.
  • Closed-toed shoes and comfortable, practical clothing are recommended for work assignments.

8. Medical and Health Requirements

  • Volunteers are required to consult with their doctor before travelling to Ghana. Please ensure that you are up-to-date with vaccinations and medical check-ups. It is important to seek advice on any other health precautions you may need to take.
  • We recommend bringing any medications you may need, including over-the-counter remedies, as they might not be readily available in Ghana.

9. Confidentiality

  • As a volunteer, you may be exposed to sensitive information during your assignment. Confidentiality is paramount, and volunteers must agree to maintain privacy about all matters they encounter while volunteering.
  • Volunteers will sign a confidentiality agreement as part of the registration process.

10. Liability

  • Volunteers are responsible for the security of their personal belongings while at the volunteer centre or host sites. AVO is not liable for any lost or damaged items.
  • Please take necessary precautions to safeguard your belongings during your volunteer experience.

11. Reporting and Communication

  • You will be assigned a volunteer supervisor who will guide you throughout your assignment.
  • If you face any challenges or issues, report them promptly to your supervisor and communicate directly with AVO Volunteer Coordinator to find a solution.
  • Consistent communication with your AVO Volunteer Coordinator is essential to ensure the success of your volunteer experience.

12. General Conduct

  • Volunteers should always exhibit professionalism, respect, and a positive attitude while working with local communities and colleagues.
  • Your behaviour will reflect not only on AVO but also on the organisations and individuals you are volunteering with.
  • By adhering to these guidelines, you contribute to a positive and impactful volunteer experience. We look forward to having you on board and supporting you throughout your journey!

Note: If you have any questions or need further clarification about any of the guidelines, feel free to reach out to AVO (email) before completing your registration.
